There’s a small moment that happens before you make tea.
It’s easy to miss if you’re moving quickly. But once you notice it, you start to see it more often.
It’s the moment where you decide to pause.
Not because everything around you has stopped. Usually it hasn’t. The day might still be busy. There may still be things waiting for you. But in that moment, you choose to step slightly outside of the rush.
You choose the cup.
For some people, that moment comes first thing in the morning. Before the messages start coming in or the house fully wakes up.
For others, it happens later in the day — a quiet break between responsibilities, or a way to settle into the evening.
However it happens, the act itself is simple.
You fill the kettle.
You reach for the tea.
You choose a cup.
None of it is complicated, but the choice behind it matters.
Because choosing the cup is really about choosing a moment for yourself. A moment to slow down just enough to notice where you are and how you’re feeling.
Sometimes it’s shared with someone else.
Sometimes it’s quiet and personal.
Sometimes it lasts ten minutes. Sometimes only a few.
There’s no perfect way to do it.
The point isn’t to create a ritual or add another thing to your day. The point is simply to recognize that small pauses exist — and that you’re allowed to take them.
Choosing the cup is one of the simplest ways to return to yourself.
Not by stepping away from your life, but by being a little more present inside it.
